Dhooma Prayer
When we scan the history of the parishes in Kerala, we find a unique prayer at Chittattukara. That is the dhooma prayer.

Very early in the morning on the Fridays in the lent, people come to the church for it. A procession with the rosary starts from the church at 5.30. It returns to the church from Kizhakkethala junction. The procession is attended by a large number of people. Throughout the procession incense is continuously being burnt. Members of the old generation certify that this practice was started in the forties when the people got a sudden remission from epidemics through the intervention of their patron saint. Devotees take part in it even today with keen interest and faith.

There are several special prayers conducted at Chittattukara. There is the novena of the Mother of Perpetual Help after mass on Saturday mornings. The novena of St Antony is on Tuesdays. There are special veneration prayers to St Joseph in March and to the Virgin Mother in May (Vanakkamasam). October is noted for the rosary. On the lat ten days there will be rosary with holy mass and benediction. All saints day s observed in November. One day is reserved to remember and pray for the departed and to visit the cemetery. All these can be described as celebrations of the spirit.

On Fridays during the lent, the procession of the cross is arranged from various family units which all unite in the church by 9 at night. On Monte Thursdays there will be continuous adoration and a common adoration in the evening. The programmes of Good Friday are memorable. The parishioners take part in the midnight masses on Christmas, Easter, and on New Year day. Annual retreat is arranged during the lent.

In addition to the programmes and practices mentioned above, the parish takes up all the activities recommended by the people and the Church authorities ensuring that there is no decline in spirituality.
